Dahabshiil should get out of this business. They should become financiers only not owners or builders.

It is good for our economy to have different companies specialise in different levels of the sector.

We need big companies focused on the bigger picture.

No innovation

Looks like they’re trying to catch the next big wave or to put it kindly diversifying. If you’re gonna do it do it full throttle like Telesom and their gated communities not dipping your toes here and there. Build affordable town homes all over Somaliland.

Even Telesom is in the wrong business. Anything to do with family housing - should be left for other smaller companies. These big companies should provide finances only - create an industry not an monopoly.

if Dahabshiil/Telesom were to go into real-estate, then skyscrapers or apartment complex or even Shopping Centres is where they should go into.

The market for Apartments is huge. There are literally hundreds of newly weds who are living in rented housing. These include young men who good income and could probably afford a 2 Bed Room Unit in an appartment complex for around 50-60,000 dollars - paid in 5 - 10 year loan term.

This is Ghana. Imagine these kind of buildings in the city centre, very convenient for newly weds with zero or 1/2 kids. This building could easily have 40 - 60 apartments with 1 or 2 Bed room. The ground level could become a shopping or services like laundry services etc.

Mogadishu’s banks are way ahead of Somaliland’s banks.

Financing commercial buildings.
