River sand is wholly made of silica and allows good drainage. Helps to drain water exceptionally well and have no fine dust which would inhibit air movement through the soil (aeration). River sand is stable, whereas sea sand would contain salts that could be harmful to plants. One can in fact grow plants in sand and sandy soil. … While pure sand is not an ideal medium for growing plants, it can be used to successfully grow a number of different plant species.

River Sand is used in concrete, golf courses, sport field construction, and as a soil amendment . River Sand is a great soil amendment for gardening and landscaping as it helps relieve clay soils from becoming compacted, and improves water and air infiltration.

Xumboweyne which is silting up fast should also be dredged.
