Reconstruction of Waaheen Market, Hargeisa

That building occupying the road was there from the start. The Central Gov’t published plans included it.

But they should have rejected it even if the owners of the land previously had a building there. It just doesn’t look good and it is also clearly not aligned with any other building.

The market is coming along nicely.

I hope the kind of material used will stand up to heavy footfall traffic. It might look nicer but I would rather they use concrete rails than these metallic rails and instead of tiles just use concrete for the stairs and corridors. These tiles will crack when anything hard land on them and most people use wheelbarrows to transport things in markets. Also slipery when wet or dusty.

Not a fan of this tiles at all.

Much prefer this paving

Not a lost of space in the corridors for people to pass each other. Should have been at least 2 metres between shop and balcony walls.

Holy cow. That is too narrow.

Good to see water proof membrane in use!

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of Waaheen market fire.

The rebuild project is coming along nicely.

Here is Darasalaam, I hope they make the streets as neat as these.
