Burco Livestock market is one of the oldest markets in Africa of its kind. The market is as it was found back in 1890s. Nothing changed.
What a shame.
This market probably one of the most important in Somaliland. There has been no investments done over those many years.
If the Gov’t only invested in the following:
- proper managed livestock market which is fenced and has cages/xerooyin.
- Temporary shades for people and seating area
- Temporary accommodation for livestock owners who travel to the city.
- Gov’t offices for animal health checks/taxation and registration/documentation

I am wondering why the Somaliland government has kept a low profile in the face of this? The livestock export is probably the second biggest income generator after Remitence.
