Somaliland’s Minister of Water Resources Development, Mohamed Abdimalik, on Thursday launched a major water expansion project in the town of Ceel Afweyn in the Sanaag region, aimed at improving access to clean water for local communities.
The project will involve transporting water from the Illad area, located approximately 35 kilometers from Ceel Afweyn, as part of a broader effort to address long-standing water shortages in the district.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, the minister announced the official start of the water expansion and pipeline development project connecting Illad to Ceel Afweyn.
The Illad-to-Ceel Afweyn water expansion project is being funded through the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF), a major development financing mechanism supporting infrastructure and public service projects across Somaliland.
