London (HOL) - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a £100 million (nearly $125 million) for Somalia’s development projects, encompassing economic infrastructure and agricultural development.

Prime Minister Sunak announced the funding during Monday’s meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohmoud on the sidelines of the Global Food Security Summit in London.

President Mahmoud emphasized the challenges facing the Somali people and the government’s efforts to address the averted famine in 2022 and the current climate-induced severe shocks in the country, resulting in the death of 50 people since mid-October. He also addressed global food insecurity, highlighting the importance of innovation and climate resilience.

The President commended the UK’s commitment of £100 million in aid as a significant step toward global collaboration.

The Global Food Security Summit, co-hosted by the UK, the UAE, and Somalia, was attended by representatives from more than 20 countries, aiming to discuss ways to enhance efforts to achieve zero hunger.
