World Bank: Port Development & Competition in East/South Africa

The World Bank’s report on Port Development & Competition covers Eastern and Southern countries in Africa. For Somalia/Somaliland, they go into detail on Berbera Port and just mention as a passing remark on Somalia’s other ports.

All in all, the port can be considered a first generation port that is expected to move to a second or third generation port as soon as substantial port developments take place. The population in Berbera shows a strong growth pattern, with a CAGR of about 5 percent between 2005 and 2014.

The Way a Third Generation Port Can Boost Local Employment: The Case of Piraeus

I think they are way off the mark for Berbera Port. Berbera Port can achieve that in next 5-10 years.
